Tests.

Here are 6 common quality tests on concrete before and after completion of casting on site

  • Slump test before leaving the batching plant and on arrival on site
  • Compressive strength test

  • Rapid Chloride Ion Penetration Test
  • Water Absorption Test
  • Initial Surface Absorption Test

This Lecture provides students an understanding and ability to analyze and design pre-stressed concrete structural elements. Topics discussed include the concept and principles of pre-stressing, methods of pre-stressing concrete, stress limits, losses of pre-stress, selection of sections, serviceability and strength requirements. Students will also be exposed to the complete analysis and design procedure of simply supported pre-stressed concrete non-composite and composite beams, and design principles of continuous beams.

A pre-stressed concrete structure is different from a conventional reinforced concrete structure due to the application of an initial load on the structure prior to its use. The initial load or ‘prestress’ is applied to enable the structure to counteract the stresses arising during its service period.
