National Seminar on “Indian Ethos and Indian Models of Economy, Business and Management” Organized by MBA on 2nd November 2018

A National Seminar on the topic “Indian Ethos and Indian Models of Economy, Business and Management was organized by the Department of Business Administration, Department of Business Administration , ABES Engineering College, Ghaziabad on 02/11/2018., in association with Kautilya International Foundation, New Delhi and Ghaziabad Management Association.

In the inaugural ceremony Advisor ABES, EC Mr Raghunandan Kansal, Director ABES EC Prof Gajendra Singh, HOD MBA Prof R K Sighal, Mr Surendra Singh Bisht from Kautilya International Foundation, New Delhi and Mr Vinay Gupta Executive Director , Ghaziabad Management Association were present on the occasion.

Director ABES EC Prof Gajendra Singh, delivered the welcome address and expressed his views on the topic of the seminar. He said that Ethics and moral values were like a compass which showed the correct path to be followed by human beings. He also said that root cause of the problems being faced by the society today was the lack of feelings in relationships.

Mr Surendra Singh Bisht from Kautilya International Foundation, New Delhi, then addressed the gathering . He said that we should look at India from an Indian perspective and similarly we should look at the world also from an Indian perspective. He further said that we should maintain a balance between culture and prosperity.

Shri. K. N. Govindacharya, Renowned Environmental, social political activist and thinker Chief Patron: Kautilya International Foundation then delivered his key note address. He said that India’s population was 16% of the world population, however under the WTO regime it was treated at par with other countries of the world. He further added that after the Second World War the United Nations promoted the concept that developing countries should discard their traditional ways and follow the western model for progress. This resulted in 80% of the wealth being concentrated in the hands of 20% of the people. Subsequently in 2012 the United Nations suggested that every country should follow its own model for achieving prosperity.
He said that the basic tenets of Indian Economy were based on the concept of Life, Forest and God. He also added that the guiding principle for management should be on compassion and not profit.

The last speaker of the session was former professor of Delhi University Dr Lallan Prasad. He said that India was country of scientists and intellectuals. While speaking about Chanakya’s treatise “Arthashastra”, he said that it was not ,merely a book , but a library in itself. He further added that although this book was written 2500 years ago , yet it contained most of the modern principles of Management and Economics.

In the First Technical Session Dr. Balbir Sihag Professor Emeritus MIT, USA and renowned Economist & Author of the Book- Kautilya:The True Founder of Economics spoke about Chanakya and “Arthashastra”. He said that this book had references from our great epics i.e. Mahabharata and Ramayana. He further added that Chanakya was able to create one of the most powerful empires in the world. He concluded by saying that one should never compromise with ethics and moral values.

In the next session the key speaker was Dr. B. B. Chakrabarti Renowned Management thinker Professor IIM – Kolkata Former Director IIM Ranchi spoke about India’s Economic scenario and the forthcoming challenges. He said that the major challenges being faced by the Indian economy were Food inflation , Jobs, Taxes, reforms, agriculture, reviving manufacturing, infrastructure , energy and urbanization.

In the last session around 27 people presented research papers. The programme was coordinated by Dr Rudresh Pandey, Dr S Rao Dr Parul, Dr A Das, Mr Sudeep Chaudhary, Dr Amrita Singh, Dr Ajay Singh, Dr Shobhika , Dr Anurag and Ms Achla Tyagi.
